Every offer starts with the vehicle's weight and the current scrap steel price per ton. A compact car is roughly one and a third tons. A full-size pickup is closer to two and a half. That difference alone can be several hundred dollars.
Scrap prices move with commodity markets and change month to month. That is why no honest buyer can give you a fixed figure for a model without knowing when you are selling.
Above scrap, value comes from components worth more intact than melted. A working engine and transmission. An intact catalytic converter, which is one of the most valuable single parts on the vehicle. Wheels and usable tires. Undamaged body panels, glass, and interior on a common model.
This is why a complete car that runs is worth substantially more than the same car stripped, even though they weigh nearly the same.
A missing catalytic converter. An engine or transmission already pulled. Missing wheels. Damage beyond what was described on the phone. No title, since we take on the paperwork.
